A 15-member expert panel formed by the State Education Board has suggested that class 10 exams be made optional and semester system be introduced in class 11 and 12 Science stream, a education department official said on Friday.
"We have recommended that class 10 exams be made optional, there should be semester system in class 11 and 12 of Science stream," a member of the committee said.
"It was further recommended that there should not be formal declaration of top ten rankers at state and district levels," he said, adding that they also suggested how to implement the recommendations.
A draft of the recommendations was on Friday signed by the members of the committee consisting of experts in the field of education and government officials and submitted to the state government for approval, one of the committee members said.
The committee was formed after a annual general meeting of the state education board held in July this year.
Following formation of the committee, series of meetings of the members were held and on Friday all the members signed the report containing the recommendation and sent it to the state government for approval, he said.
This recommendations follows Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal's move to make class 10 exams optional in Central Board, he said.
