The CBI is no longer pursuing its investigation into the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel medallion and other memorabilia from the Rabindra Bhavan at Santiniketan, official sources said on Sunday.

In a letter to the university authorities on August 20, the SP, Special Crime Branch of the CBI, Kolkata, said the investigation had been closed for want of any significant clue.

Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed dismay at CBI closing the probe, saying she would talk to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the matter.

"I am feeling very bad...It is a shame that we have to remain alive with a replica of the Tagore’s Nobel medallion,” she said.

The theft of the medallion and 47 other memorabilia came to light on March 25, 2004.
