CM inaugurates first unit of Omkareshwar project

WHILE ADMITTING that the gulf between demand and supply of power in State was about 1700-mw, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it would be ensured that work of Omkareshwar Hydro Power Project finishes on time and claimed that in the next two to three years MP would be made a developed state.

WHILE ADMITTING that the gulf between demand and supply of power in State was about 1700-mw, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it would be ensured that work of Omkareshwar Hydro Power Project finishes on time and claimed that in the next two to three years MP would be made a developed state.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the commencement of first unit turbine and generator erection of the 520-mw Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Project today, he congratulated Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC) for completing the work of Unit 1 turbine on time and said that in future also his government would sanction schemes to NHDC for execution. This unit will generate 130-mw of power.

Chouhan said government schemes would remain only on papers if the people did not take their benefit. He laid stress on completion of schemes in timeframe.

Speaking on the occasion Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation president and CEO Dr Hubert Lienhard said, ‘‘we are committed to playing an active role in India and want to participate at initial stages in large plants’’.
