Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Friday suffered a setback with the Supreme Court dismissing his special leave petition in which he had challenged the maintainability of a petition filed against him by defeated Congress candidate Raj Kumar Patel.

A bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice D K Jain dismissed Chauhan’s plea on the ground that there was no merit in his arguments.

The dismissal of the SLP means that hearing on the election petition filed by Patel before the Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court will now resume.
