IN AN obvious bid to rule out the possibility of foul play and ensure smooth co-ordination to pay ‘unemployment allowance’ to unemployed graduates and postgraduates, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav deputed ministers and senior IAS officers at the function being organised at Ambedkar Maidan on Friday.

As the function was considered one of the most prestigious events for the State government, the chief minister today reviewed the preparations for Friday’s programme. The chief minister directed chief secretary, Naveen Chand Bajpai, to deploy senior IAS officers and ensure that the event passed off smoothly.

Home secretary Mohan Swaroop, 54 ministers and 62 senior IAS officers had been deputed for the function. Besides, elaborate security arrangements had also been made, he said. Officers were deputed to oversee the functioning of 52 counters being made to distribute unemployment allowance, he said. Senior officers deployed there included 24 principal secretaries and 28 secretaries. The chief minister himself would hand over cheques to some of youths. The ministers are likely to take care of the distribution work at other counters. Officers were asked to oversee verification of documents of the youths to be paid the allowance, he said.

The State government had obviously taken extra precaution to ensure that no irregularities were committed in the distribution of unemployment allowance.

Commissioner, Lucknow division, RK Mittal, was appointed co-ordinator for the function. Chief secretary Naveen Chand Bajpai had reportedly asked officers of Lucknow district administration to probe how a fake residential certificate was issued in the name of Abu Musabal Zarquavi, chief of Iraq’s Al-Quaeda unit. Swaroop, however, said he was not aware of the probe.
