CM's son elected president of rifle association

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh's son Vikramaditya Singh was unanimously elected president of the Himachal Pradesh State Rifle Association (HPSRA).

The elections were held here on Sunday in the general body meeting, in which members elected Vikramaditya, who also heads the HP State Softball Association, president, besides electing the governing body.

In the elections, Surat Singh Thakur was elected as senior vice-president, Rajesh Parmar, Vikrant Singh Rana and Rajeev Sehgal as vice-presidents, Ishwar Rohal general secretary, Rana Vijay Singh as chief advisor, Manish Giri as joint secretary and Rajeev Sood as treasurer, besides six members of the governing council from different districts.

Vikramaditya said HPSRA was a non-political body which was working with a motive to promote shooters of the state keeping aside the vested interests. “The state has a lot of talented shooters who have been performing well in national and international events,” he said.

The association would provide best equipment and other facilities with the help of the state and union governments, he added.

The matter to include shooting game under sports quota for admission in higher educational institutes had already been taken up with the state government and Himachal Pradesh University, he added. Besides, efforts would be made to enhance the reservation percentage in the government jobs especially in the police department for the sportspersons.

He said efforts were on to establish an international-level shooting range in the state for which a site had been identified near Ghanahati in Shimla district. “Indoor shooting range has been completed at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Shimla, which would be inaugurated soon,” he added.
