VETERAN CONGRESS leader and leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Jamuna Devi, today alleged that several announcements made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the recent Adivasi Panchayat were encroachment on the right and schemes of Government of India.
Describing all announcements made by the Chief Minister as eyewash, she demanded a ‘white paper’ on all announcements along with their present status.
“The Chief Minister made many announcements without realising that the State Government is not empowered to make such announcements like converting forest villages into revenue villages”, she said at a press conference here at PCC office.
She revealed that earlier the Chief Minister and officers of the Forest Department used to mention in their letters to her that the State Government could not undertake the work of giving pattas of forestland and to concert forest villages into revenue villages. Moreover, they also referred in their letters, copies of which were provided by her to the press, that there is a stay of Supreme Court on these issues.
“Despite being aware about the facts and legal position, why the Chief Minister made announcement for giving pattas on forestland and to convert forest villages into revenue villages?” she asked.
She said the Government of India recently passed Tribal Rights Bill along with other bills, which paved the way for giving pattas on forestland and also to concert forest villages into revenue villages.
