This summer, residents sweated it out because of frequent and prolonged power cuts. But officials say things may change for the better.

Keeping in mind the requirement for housing projects proposed in Noida Extension and coming up along the Greater Noida Expressway, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) will set up six power sub-stations. Five will come up in Noida, while Greater Noida will have one sub-station.

"We're looking at having surplus electricity in Noida by 2015. The commissioning of these sub-stations will mean the total availability in the city will be 2,000 MW against the projected requirement of 1,550 MW," said a senior UPPCL official.

Currently, Noida needs 900 MW, while it gets only 750 MW. Work has begun on one sub-station in Sector 115, while land has been identified for the rest.

"A sub-station in Greater Noida, set for commissioning in four years, alone will supply 3,000 MW of electricity," the official said.
