The Election Commission of India has selected comedian Jaspal Bhatti as the brand icon for the summary revision of Electoral Rolls and the forthcoming elections to the Punjab state legislative assembly.
Talking to reporters, chief electoral officer of Punjab Kusumjit Sidhu said Bhatti is a national figure from Chandigarh, who has done excellent work in the field of humour and satire.
Sidhu added that the choice of the brand icon is dictated by various factors such as Bhatti's mass appeal, identification with the masses, a clean image and non-political affiliations.
She recognised Bhatti's contribution to films and television and noted that over the years he has always been associated with clean and meaningful humour.
"As a brand icon he shall feature in all the advertisements of Election Commission of India in the print and visual media till the conclusion the elections to the Punjab state assembly," added Sidhu.
