Designer Monisha Bajaj created ripples in the fashion industry in the late 1990s, and was was touted as a name to reckon with. But at the peak of her career, she took the decision to put everything else on hold to be with her family. “I was pregnant and I thought it was time for me to take a break and look after my family,” explains Bajaj.
She’s back in action now, but this time with a multi-brand store called Store One, that’ll house a mix of Indian designers’ collections. Bajaj says this “a new life” for her.
The store, that has been launched in Pune and Bangalore, will soon be launched in Delhi. “Store One is my baby… from the interiors to selecting the designers – I have done everything in the store,” says the designer.
But why make a comeback with a store? “I wanted to explore this new medium of design. I’ll definitely launch my own collection, perhaps at the next installment of fashion week,” she says. This time, Bajaj will be at the fashion week as a buyer. “It’s fun to be there not as a designer but as a buyer scrutinising everyone’s collection and taking a call on what works.”
