In what turned out to be a violent communal clash that left ten people seriously injured, ten others were arrested in the Borsad Taluk. According to the police, the incident took place in Dahemi village of the taluk, where two groups hailing from different communities clashed over a petty matter yesterday night.
As per the local police, the two groups pelted stones at each other, and torched three motorcycles. Subsequently, the police resorted to cane-charge and fired six rounds of tear gas in a desperate attempt to quell the mob. Besides, a marriage venue was also set ablaze.
The police said that both the groups have filed cross complaints against each other. A company of the State Reserve Police (SRP) has been deployed in the village. The situation continues to be tense, but is under control at present, and further investigations into the incident are on, said the police.
