Pandemonium prevailed in the Karnataka assembly on Wednesday as Janata Dal-Secular MLAs blew conch shells and flaunted a large suitcase purportedly containing papers establishing corruption in land allotments to his kin by chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

Opposition MLAs also sang religious songs and played musical instruments in a bid to highlight corruption and illegal mining operations since the BJP came to power in the state nearly three years ago.

JD-S lawmakers claimed that the suitcase contained documents to prove illegal land deals worth Rs100,000 crore during Yeddyurappa’s rule.

Assembly speaker KG Bopaiah ordered the marshals to confiscate the placards and take away the suitcase amid protests by JD-S members and slogan shouting by Congress legislators.

JD-S leader HD Revanna said, "The evidence was shown in the assembly as a counter to Yeddyurappa’s move to flash documents against (Revanna's father) HD Devegowda."

As the commotion continued, the speaker allowed BJP legislator Suresh Gowda to move a privilege motion against JD-S leader HD Kumaraswamy for comparing the happenings in the assembly with scenes in a country liquor shop. Bopaiah said he would refer the motion to the Lok Sabha speaker.

The Congress and JD-S have declared that they would not allow any business in the assembly until Yeddyurappa resigns over the land scams.
