ALL THE Congress bigwigs from Madhya Pradesh have either arrived or would be arriving in the next couple of days to welcome the party president Sonia Gandhi, who is visiting Bhopal on July 3. This will be her first visit to Bhopal after the BJP took over reins in Madhya Pradesh more than two and a half years ago.
Union Minister of State for Personnel and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh are already in the City while Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria would be arriving tomorrow. Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia would come by morning flight on July 3. Union Minister for Commerce & Industries Kamalnath is at Geneva currently in connection with World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of party affairs for MP V Narayan Samy also arrived by evening flight today.
Meanwhile, State Congress president Subhash Yadav today took stock of preparations being made for party president’s visit. He along with Digvijay Singh also visited the places where Sonia Gandhi’s programmes are scheduled. Mahesh Joshi, Manak Agrawal and Meenakshi Natrajan also accompanied them.
Later, in a press statement, he appealed to all the Congressmen and women to accord a warm welcome to Sonia Gandhi on her arrival. He further appealed party workers and people at large to remain behind the barricades while welcoming Sonia Gandhi on her way from airport.
Though Sonia Gandhi’s programme has not been confirmed so far but according to schedule, she would drive down to Ravindra Bhavan following a brief stay at the airport following arrival by a special plane at 9.30 am, where she would formally inaugurate works under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission at Bhopal. She would, subsequently, participate in the inauguration programme of Sanskar Valley School.
Later, she would address party leaders and workers of the State at New Dussehra Maidan in T T Nagar. She would leave for Delhi at 4.00 pm the same day.
