Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) celebrated the 39th birthday of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi with poor and deprived children.

The under privileged children cut a birthday cake at 'Gandhi Bhavan', the state unit party office in the presence of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and state unit president Manikrao Thakre and also sang the Happy Birthday song for the Congress leader.

Thakre said the children expressed their best wishes for the young leader, who epitomises the dreams and aspirations of youth, oppressed and neglected sections of the society.

He said such celebratory functions are being organised in every district and taluka of the state to observe "Yuva Shakti Divas (day)".

Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and Mumbai South Central MP Eknath Gaikwad distributed sweets and notebooks to children at "Children Aid Society" in Matunga in Central Mumbai.
