Wielding a stick of discipline among party men, the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has announced to take action against leaders skipping party meeting at district and block levels.
"It is mandatory for all office bearers in the district and block levels to attend meetings. Majority of the observers have expressed satisfaction over the attendance at block-level meetings, but there are few who have expressed their displeasure over the lackadaisical attitude of some office bearers," state Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu told party observers at a meeting organised at the party head quarters in Shimla on Tuesday.
"We will have to rethink on party office-bearers, who are not devoting time for the party," he said.
"The party will ensure presence of Congress office bearers, ministers, CPSs, MLAs, former MLAs, office bearers of Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Sewa Dal, NSUI, INTUC and party's frontal organisations at block-level meetings," he said.
The meet was convened to seek feedback from observers about party preparations at the block and district-level.
Sukhu has appointed observers in all 68 assembly segments, across the state.
Sukhu said: "We should now take this initiative further by organising meetings at panchayat and booth level."
Sukhu said he would personally tour tribal areas under the Karyakarta Jagrukta Abhiyan (Workers' Awareness campaign).
Sukhu gave a clarion call to party office bearers to take up to propagate policies of and programmes of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government amid the general masses. CPS Nand Lal, Vinay Kumar, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, HPCC general secretary Geeta Negi, spokesperson
Naresh Chauhan along with all block-level observers attended the meeting. After taking the feedback, state party chief is also planning to invite observers in the general house of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
