Rich tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandh at a function held at Gandhi Chowk on Wednesday morning.

ID Lakhanpal, chief parliamentary secretary (CPS), led people to pay their homage to the man who brought us freedom.

Early in the morning, Congress persons and officials of the district administration took part in a 'prabhatferi' and sang patriotic songs and bhajans. Later, they offered floral tributes to the statue of Bapu at Gandhi Chowk.

While addressing the participants, Lakhanpal said Bapu was the real son of the soil whose teachings were still relevant.

He urged the people to follow the footsteps of great Indian leaders like Gandhi and to refrain from the forces that were trying to divide the nation on caste and religious lines.

Meanwhile, members of the Hamirpur Block Congress Committee also paid rich tributes to Gandhi at their meeting here on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the members took a pledge to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming general elections.

On the occasion, the Hamirpur Block Congress Committee constituted many committees for making the election campaign more effective.
