OPPOSITION CONGRESS on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the SP office demanding the arrest of BJP leader Jagdish Dhaneria and the resignation of Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah for allegedly giving protection to Dhaneria, which has prevented the police from arresting him.

They formed a human chain and shouted slogans against the police and the Shivraj Singh Chauhan government, and gave two memoranda to the additional SP Manoj Shrivastava addressed to the Governor, Chief Minister, IG, SP.  The first was addressed to the Chief Minister and Governor demanding Shah’s ouster and the other to ssenior police officers for arresting Dhaneria.

Jagdish Dhaneria’s arrest is being demanded in connection with the suicide of Sunita Dhaneria, who was daughter-in-law of his brother. In her dying declaration, Sunita had said that her husband, her father-in-law, mother-in-law and Jagdish Dhaneria were responsible for her death.

While the remaining accused have been arrested, police have not arrested Jagdish Dhaneria so far. The issue came into focus after Jagdish Dhaneria shared a common dais with Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah at a function at the Central Jail recently. Vijay Shah’s ouster is being demanded for giving protection to Jagdish Dhaneria, who is said to be close to Vijay Shah.

Later the activists and Congress leaders including City Congress president Pramod Tandon, MLA Ashwin Joshi, former MLA Ramlal Yadav, Kripa Shankar Shukla, Vipin Khujneri and others met SP Anshuman Yadav for Dhaneria’s arrest.

The SP told the delegates that the matter was still under investigation and if necessary he would be arrested. He pointed out that it was not necessary that just because someone had been named in a dying declaration, he had to be arrested.
