Blaming the state government for intentionally delaying the election schedule of seven municipal corporations, INLD legislator from Ellenabad Abhey Chautala on Wednesday said that the Congress leaders have started adopting cheap tactics following increasing popularity of the INLD.

The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader was here on Wednesday to attend INLD's youth convention.

He said: “Voters in Haryana are convinced that INLD leaders OP Chautala and Ajay Chautala were victims of Congress' political game-plan. The Congress leadership feels threatened and they are apprehending strong defeat in the MC polls.”

Chautala said that his party has decided to contest local bodies' elections on party symbol and dared the Congress to field candidates with the party's name.

“The elections will expose the maladministration of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government ahead of the parliamentary as well as the assembly elections,” Chautala said.

Taking a dig at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's visit to Panchkula, INLD state president Ashok Arora, who was also present on the occasion, said that while Haryana had seen a sharp rise in cases related to atrocities on Dalits, the Congress leadership had ignored the ground realities.

“An increase in rape cases and attacks on Dalits reflects the lawlessness in state, but leaders like Rahul Gandhi choose to convene meeting than meet the victims,” Arora said.
