In a  rare show of unity, all major State Congress leaders assembled for a silent protest in front of the Chief Minister’s residence today against the Ujjain incident and alleged inaction on the part of State Government to book ABVP activists who allegedly assaulted Prof H S Sabarwal, leading to his death.

Amidst incessant showers, Congress leaders including leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamuna Devi, State Congress chief Subhash Yadav, former ministers Ajay Singh, Harvansh Singh and Satyadev Katare and a host of other Congress leaders sat on a dharna at the Chief Minister’s residence for over four hours to protest the death of professor Sabarwal allegedly following an assault by a group of ABVP workers at Madhav College, Ujjain and apparent efforts of the State Government to shield the accused.

Following the dharna, a memorandum was handed over to the district Collector demanding the immediate arrest of accused ABVP leaders, suspension of Ujjain Collector and Superintendent of Police, handing over inquiry of the case to the CBI, compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased professor, Government job to one member of his family, ban on the ABVP and resignation of Minister of State for Higher Education Tukojirao Pawar.
