The Congress kept up the suspense about its nominee for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat when the second list of 16 candidates it released on Thursday did not include the name of its nominee for the Bhatinda assembly seat. State Finance Minister  SS Singla, who represents Bhatinda, is an aspirant for the Lok Sabha ticket. The candidates for Samana and Talwandi Sabo also remained to be declared.

The second list contains several relatives. The party has denied nomination to Veer Davinder Singh, former assembly speaker, in Kharar. But it has given tickets to former chief minister HS Brar's son Kanwarjit Singh Brar (Muktsar) and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar's brother Ripjit Singh Brar (Kot Kapura). PWD minister Partap Singh Bajwa's brother Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa has been nominated  from Srihargobindpur.

On Wednesday, the Congress has released a list of 98 names for the 117 member Assembly. With another 16 names declared on Thursday, the total has gone up to 114.
