The Congress is most likely to announce its candidates list for both Haryana and Maharashtra together in one go within a couple of days. The delay in announcement of list for Haryana was due to ongoing tussle between the Congress and the NCP.
“Most likely the Congress will announce list for both states in one go in a day or two,” said Shakeel Ahmed, general secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC), adding that the candidates will start filing nominations from September 25.
There are total 90 seats in Haryana and 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, where the alliance with NCP is in seat sharing tussle. As soon as the two parties mutually agree on seats, the Congress will announce the list.
For the 90 seats in Haryana assembly, the party has almost decided about all the candidates and now, party top brass is resolving alliance issues with the NCP for the 288 crucial seats in Maharashtra assembly.
“The screening panels for both the states have completed their jobs and now, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is giving final touch to the lists but unless the NCP-Congress tussle is resolved the announcements may be delayed by a day or two,” said PC Chako, a senior Congress leader.
However, the candidates and party activists in Haryana are worried due to the delay in announcing the candidates’ list.
“The motivation level is down since nobody is sure about the tickets. We wish the list is announced at earliest so that candidates get enough time for aggressive campaigning,” said a Gurgaon based Congress ticket aspirant.
