Opposition Congress on Thursday walked out from the Gujarat assembly over the issue of compensation to a man who committed suicide in Rapar taluka of Kutch district last month after he was denied information under RTI regarding his own land.

One Jabbardan Gadhvi immolated himself in front of taluka panchayat office of Rapar on February 2 this year.

Congress MLA from Jodia, Raghavjibhai Patel, raised the issue by a short call notice on Thursday. Patel wanted to know whether Gadhvi had informed the authorities that if he was not provided with information, he would commit suicide; and whether any action had been taken in this regard.

State Congress president Arjun Modhvadia and Leader of opposition Shaktisinh Gohil wanted to know if the government was planning to give any compensation to Gadhvi's kin.

Revenue minister, Anandi Patel, informed the house that a police complaint had been registered against Rapar mamlatdar Annirudhsinh Jala, talati Pravinaben Jadhav and PSI R G Parmar, and all three, along with three other policemen, had been suspended.
