Congress MP from Kollam (south Kerala) Pitambara Kurup is in a trouble after south Indian actress Shweta Menon complained that she was allegedly “groped and touched indecently” by the MP several times at a public function in Kollam on Sunday.

The old Kamasutra condom ad girl Shweta (Miss India second runner-up) was in news recently after one of the directors filmed her hospital delivery scene.

Menon is yet to file a police complaint. However, she reiterated her allegation on Monday saying she was insulted and humiliated at the function. She did not mention the name of the MP she asked media men to find out the person from the video clippings of the function.

She was the chief guest at the President’s Trophy boat race in Kollam. However, the 73-year-old MP stoutly denied the allegation saying it was part of a political controversy to finish off his political career.

He said, "It is totally untrue. I am telling this since my name has come up in a section of the media in connection with the incident."

Soon after the alleged incident, she brought the matter to the district collector and his deputy’s notice and later claimed that the collector apologised for the insult. However, the collector later denied it.

“The ambience at the race function was so good. I didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere by protesting publicly,” she said adding groping began at the very moment she alighted from her car to inaugurate the function. “It was really shameful. I am really anguished by this indecent behaviour,” she said she informed the cine workers association office-bearers and would take further action after consulting them.

Opposition CPM has sought immediate action against the MP. Many women Congress leaders also favoured action against him. Chief minister Oommen Chandy has sought a report from the Kollam collector.
