Vikramaditya Singh, son of Congress MP Dr Karan Singh, on Friday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a function attended by party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.

Welcoming him in the party, Mufti said that Vikramatiya would be PDP's face in Jammu.
Vikramadtiya, who is also the grandson of late Hari Singh -- last Maharaja of the Dogra kingdom -- said that Jammu region was being systematically sidelined and a desire to bring about a change brought him to the political arena.

"Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti offered me a platform to work for the welfare of the state and aspirations of the Jammu region. I feel that I have the right and obligation to do so and accept the challenge with humility," Vikramaditya Singh said.

"He belongs to one of the important families of the state with pan-state image. Vikramaditya will be an important face for us in the Jammu region," PDP spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar told HT.

"He has not joined for 10 percent commission of NREGA but to commission a change in governance," PDP leader Haseeb Drabu added.

Vikramaditya runs a hotel business in Himachal Pradesh. It's his first stint in politics though his brother, Ajat Shatru Singh, is National Conference (NC) MLC and was minister in the NC government headed by Farooq Abdullah.
