Congress on Saturday slammed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his description of Congress as an old woman and demanded an apology from the Gujarat Chief Minister for "perverting" the concept of Indian culture.

"He (Modi) has perverted the concept of Indian culture and should apologise immediately...He has attacked the very ethos of India and Indian culture," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters in New Delhi.

Modi had referred the Congress as a 125-old woman, who has become a burden on the nation.

Natarajan said Indian women will "never forgive or forget this insult of Modi. It is a grievous insult to all those men who look after their mothers and sisters with love and care."

She also referred to the age of BJP prime ministerial candidate L K Advani (82) and asked whether Modi supported him for the post or not.

The spokesperson claimed that it was not the first time that Modi had made derogatory references to women. She alleged that under Modi's government in Gujarat, women have been subject to terrible violence and atrocities, the worst sufferers being those belonging to minority communities and the Godhra victims.
