Congress MLAs in Gujarat have submitted a memorandum to Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma seeking the removal of Higher Education Minister Maya Kodnani from the cabinet for her alleged role during the 2002 post Godhra riots.
In the memorandum submitted on Wednesday, Opposition party members demanded that the government should be asked to drop the “tainted minister” from the ministry as she is facing serious charges as mentioned by the government affidavit filed in the High Court.
It may be noted that the Gujarat Government has filed an affidavit in the High Court seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail of Kodanani, who is wanted in the Naroda village massacre case by the Apex Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Leader of Opposition in Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said the Governor’s intervention in the matter is necessary because the BJP government has not dropped her from the Ministry despite the fact that the High Court has issued her a notice.
“It is very unfortunate that on the one hand Gujarat Government has filed an affidavit in the High Court for cancellation of her anticipatory bail and on the other, she continues to be a Minister,” Gohil said in Ahmedabad.
