Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh would be Congress nominee for the Rajya Sabha poll slated on August 10.
Deshmukh would file his nomination papers on July 29, MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre told reporters in Mumbai on Monday.
Election Commission had on July 23 issued notification for filling in three Rajya Sabha vacancies from Maharashtra.
The vacancies were created due to the resignations of Sushilkumar Shinde (Congress), Praful Patel and Supriya Sule (NCP) after they were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent general elections.
The 288-member Legislative Assembly has an electoral college for the elections. At present, the total strength of the Assembly is 278.
The notification for all the three seats has been issued separately by the Commission. Each candidate requires 140 first preference votes to get elected.
Deshmukh is not a member of Parliament. NCP is yet to announce its nominees for the poll.
