Clearing air over his statement on Saturday, where he was quoted as saying that the Congress will form the government on its own after the 2014 elections, Pradesh Congress Committee president Saifuddin Soz clarified that he had only said that the Congress would emerge as the single largest party in the state in 2014.

He was addressing a public gathering at Palpora on Sunday.

Soz sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for developmental works in the area.

Soz said unless the provisions of 73rd amendment of the Constitution of India were incorporated into the State's Panchayat Act, the panchayat functionaries could never be empowered to serve the people. He said Congress party was committed to strengthen the panchayats and their representatives.

Listening to the grievances of the locals, health minister Sham Lal Sharma said that demands related to drinking water and irrigation would be met in the near future.
