THE UTTAR Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) today reasserted that its zonal incharges would be responsible for distribution of party tickets for urban local bodies’ polls.
There are indications that the Congress may field retired IPS officer and former Vice-Chancellor of Agra University Manzoor Ahmad for the post of Lucknow Mayor. UPCC vice-president Satyadev Tripathi and UPCC local bodies cell incharge Fazle Masood, however, refused to confirm that any decision had been taken on the issue.
As differences continue to persist among senior party leaders over the issue fresh directives have been issued now giving responsibility of ticket distribution to zonal incharges.
The UPCC issued the directives after senior party leaders discussed the issue with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Under the new arrangement the UPCC has no role in the distribution of tickets. The zonal incharges would be convenors of the committees that would finalise the tickets.
