Congman Manzoor files papers for mayoral seat

FORMER VICE chancellor of Agra University Manzoor Ahmed filed his nomination for the post of mayor in the ensuing civic elections at the office of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. UP Congress Committee president Salman Khurshid, former UPCC chief Arun Kumar Singh ?Munna? and Union Minister of State for Steel Akhilesh Das along with a large number of supporters accompanied Ahmed in his chariot prepared by the Lucknow unit of the party.

FORMER VICE chancellor of Agra University Manzoor Ahmed filed his nomination for the post of mayor in the ensuing civic elections at the office of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. UP Congress Committee president Salman Khurshid, former UPCC chief Arun Kumar Singh ‘Munna’ and Union Minister of State for Steel Akhilesh Das along with a large number of supporters accompanied Ahmed in his chariot prepared by the Lucknow unit of the party.

Salman Khurshid, Akhilesh Das and others addressed the gathering at Janpath , on way to the head office of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. They vowed to bring the party back to power in the State.

However, the procession, on reaching the LMC, met with resistance from those opposing the candidature of Manzoor Ahmed. Heated arguments between the two groups resulted in scuffles but the timely intervention by the PAC prevented any untoward incident and chased the ‘fighting’ groups away, using mild force.

Parijat Singh (Independent) candidate also filed his nomination for the mayoral post. Apart from the mayor’s candidates, the following are the other contestants- Rajni Yadav (SP candidate from ward number 72 Ganesh Ganj), Sarfaraz (Independent candidate from ward number 100 Nazarbagh), Manoj Masih (Independent candidate from ward number 57 Vikramaditya Marg), Tariq Siddiqui (Independent/ Communist Party of India from ward number 51 Kadam Rasool), Ajit Prakash Singh (Independent from ward number 45- Paper Mill Colony), Sandhya Mishra (Congress candidate from ward number 75 Sardar Patel ward), Shilpa Bhatiya (SP candidate from ward number 75 sardar Patel ward), Phool Kumari (SP candidate from ward number 10- Kharika), Dinesh Kumar (Independent candidate from ward number 1 Ibrahim ward), Dildaar Ali (SP candidate from ward number 97- Bhawaniganj), Guddu Lodhi (CPI candidate from ward number 16 Haiderganj), Riddhi Kishore (Independent candidate from ward number 90 Acharya Narendra Dev), Suman (Independent candidate from ward number 9- Kanhaiyya Madhavpur) and Bharat (Independent candidate from ward number 25- Balaganj).

Nagar Panchayat- Nominations for the ensuing polls are as follows; Kakori, chairman’s post- Mushir Ahmed (Independent) and from ward number 13 Rais Ahmed (Independent). Amethi - Rajesh for chairman’s post and Rakesh Maurya from ward number 6 (Independent). Gosainganj- Dinesh Narayan Mishra (SP), Dilip Kumar and Ainul Haq (Both independents for chairman’s post). Malihabad- Zahir Ahmed Khan (Independent) for chairman’s post, independent candidates Bittan Khan and Rubina Khan and Rani from ward number 8. Itaunja: Chairman’s post- Rajendra Prasad (Independent), ward number 1- Deepak Kumar (Independent), Ram Chandra (Independent from ward number 4) and Radha Devi (SP) from ward number 10.
