Congress-BJP councilors clash in Yamunanagar

Councilors of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Congress on Monday clashed in the office of the mayor of the Yamunanagar municipal corporation.

The unruly male elected representatives thrashed a woman councilor Sangeeta Singhal of the BJP who suffered multiline injuries.

According to the reports, the clash happened over the issue of seating plans of the mayor and her deputy.

The entire episode was recorded on camera by the journalists.

The mayor Saroj Bala, a Congress-backed leader alleged that the deputy mayor Pawan Kumar Bittu used to sit on mayor's chair in her absence.

What started as a verbal dual it finally concluded a free for all fight where the male councilors supported by the Congress pounced on the BJP councilors.

When the BJP councilor Singhal tried to intervene, others beat her badly in the mayor's office. In the melee, a BJP worker Nitin was also targeted by the agitated councilors.

The drama went for more than 20 minutes and the BJP leaders alleged that the police failed to intervene.

Meanwhile, the BJP councilors protested and demanded a criminal case to be registered against those behind the violence.

Till the time of filing the report, the police was to register a case.
