A GROUP of Congress workers led by party State spokesperson P C Sharma burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

Sharma said the protest was to condemn the bashing up of a police officer at Raja Bhoj airport in Bhopal by Bharatiya Janata Party and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists during leader of Opposition in Parliament Lal Krishna Advani’s visit on Thursday.

Referring to the death of a professor at the hands of ABVP activists at Ujjain during student council election, killing of a merchant during immersion procession of Lord Ganesh at Harda and the incident at Raja Bhoj airport on Friday, Sharma and Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Deepchand Yadav said the law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh had crumbled.

They said activists of the saffron brigade refused to honour the rule of law and warned the Congress will launch agitations in the State on the issue if the Chief Minister does not take urgent steps to restore law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh and restrain Bharatiya Janata Party supporters from taking law into their hands.
