With the Parliament session beginning on Monday expected to be stormy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday held parleys with senior party leaders on how to counter the opposition attack.
The meeting came against the backdrop of the war of words between the main opposition BJP and Congress in the wake of CBI summons to Gujarat Minister Amit Shah in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
Those who attended the Core Group meeting included Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister A K Antony and Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel.
The meeting is learnt to have discussed floor strategy of the government, with the opposition planning to corner it on a host of issues like price rise, allegations of the misuse of CBI, the recent Indo Pak talks and Maoist insurgency.
The session, having 24 sittings spread over 33 days, would also discuss a statutory resolution seeking approval of President's rule in Jharkhand.
