As calls to remove Commonwealth Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi grew after fresh allegations were levelled against him, the Congress is meeting today to decide on the matter.
Reports said that the ruling party is divided over taking any action on the Pune MP till the Games are over.
However, the party's top decision-making body which is meeting today has been forced to closely scrutinise the preparations for the Commonwealth Games and will discuss the matter at length.
A CAG report indicted Kalmadi for financial irregularities.
Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters, “We do not hold any brief... Kalmadi is not there [Indian Olympic Association] as a member of Congress... the actions of Kalmadi as president of an autonomous body are not connected with the party in any way.”
