With reference to the editorial Southern discomfort (Our Take, July 31), the success of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in the recent bypolls can be attributed to the disconnect between the state Congress and the people of Telangana. The Congress is not concerned about public welfare. The victory of the TRS is, therefore, the victory of the people. The Srikrishna Committee, looking into the Telangana issue, should take into consideration the people’s verdict while forwarding its recommendations to the Centre.

This refers to the editorial Never enough on the plate (Our Take,
July 30). The government seems apathetic to the needs of the poor, as is evident from its failure to come up with a strategy to minimise foodgrain wastage. It’s appalling that the Supreme Court had to intervene and make the government understand a simple thing like routing foodgrain to poor states rather then let it rot. It’s surprising that it never occurred to the Centre to increase the limit of the food subsidy bill.

Correction

Ashok Malik’s article (Games people play, August 2) erroneously mentioned: ‘In 2019, the IOA says it can host Delhi’s second Asian Games…’ If there’s one, it will be the third Asian Games that Delhi will host in 2019. We regret the error.
