The Congress on Friday downplayed Vellore Jail reportedly saying in reply to an RTI application that Priyanka Gandhi did not meet her father Rajiv Gandhi's assassin Nalini Murugan in the jail.

"You know what happened. And about the RTI application, we will check up," AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

Singhvi was responding to a question on the Vellore Jail authorities reportedly stating in a reply to an RTI application that no one met Nalini on March 19, the day on which Priyanka has herself confirmed as having met the prisoner serving a life sentence.

On April 15, as news of Priyanka's meeting with the conspirator of her father's assassination spread, she issued a statement in which she said it was her way of coming to peace with her loss.

"It is true that I met Nalini Sriharan in Vellore central jail on March, 19 2008. It was my way of coming to peace with the violence and loss that I have experienced," she said.
