Slamming BSP supremo Mayawati for demanding a probe into the assets of all ex-Prime Ministers, the Uttar Pradesh Congress on Wednesday said this showed her scant regard for former leaders who had made immense contributions in development of the nation.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister owed an apology to the nation for her remarks, said UPCC media in-charge Ram Kumar Bhargava in a press release in Lucknow.
"Mayawati should not forget that the former Premiers against whom she is demanding an inquiry were the ones who had not only made great sacrifices but had also donated all their properties to the nation," he said.
"Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and others had earned l widespread respect by their deeds," the release said.
On the other hand, Mayawati had amassed wealth by fleecing people, it said.
Bhargava alleged Mayawati had made farmers of her native village landless by giving her nod for setting up an entertainment park there.
He said his party would always raise its voice against moves to acquire land of the poor and farmers.
