The ruling Congress MLA from Yavatmal, Nilesh Parvekar, died of a road accident near Morgawane village in Yavatmal district, some 180 kms from Mumbai in western part of Vidarbha this evening.
According to reports reaching here late tonight, the tragedy occurred on Sunday around 9.00 pm when his car in which he was driving turned turtle after he lost control. Three other persons, including the Yavatmal Congress Zilla parishad member, Balasaheb Mangrulkar and a senior party activist, Pandhari Gulhane were injured in the accident.
Parvekar sustained seriously injuries and was rushed to a private hospital at Yavatmal where he declared dead late tonight. He was 44.
Parvekar had contested the state Assembly elections as Congress nominee in 2009 from Yavatmal and defeated his immediate rival, the then sitting MLA Madan Yerawar--a very influential BJP leader of the region-- by over 36,500 votes.
The young Congress leader was very close confident of the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan. The chief minister, Chavan and the MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre are arriving Yavatmal on Monday morning to attend the funeral. The union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, who is on a three-day Vidarbha tour, visited the hospital tonight and enquired about health when he was admitted in a private hospital.
Parvekar is survived by wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
