Gujarat Congress MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh received a show cause notice from the party for praising chief minister Anandiben Patel in an advertisement in local papers.
Sheikh had issued an advaertisement which carried a photo of Anandiben and congratulated her, health minister Nitin Patel and minister of state for health, Shankar Chowdhary for having announced Rs 2 lakh as medical assistance in case of serious illness for families with an annual income lower than Rs 1.20 lakh.
The Gujarat Congress has issued him a show cause notice asking him to explain why he should not be suspended from the party on disciplinary ground. “A show case notice has been issued to him and we will wait for his reply,” state Congress leader Balubhai Patel said.
Sheikh, who represents minority dominated Dariapur assembly segment in Ahmedabad city, is one of the only two MLAs the Congress has in Ahmedabad city which will go for civic polls later this year.
“I congratulated the CM and the state government for extending the health financial assistance to those whose annual income is lower than Rs 1.2 lakh. This will cover close to three crore people in the state,” Sheikh said, adding “there was no politics behind his move.”
