Closing the chapter on Rahul Gandhi’s possible nomination as prime ministerial candidate on Thursday, the Congress leadership wants to devote its energy on the poll strategy on Friday’s crucial meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

This, sources suggest, also suits Rahul Gandhi’s plans as he too wanted the last AICC meet before the general election to focus on poll preparations. In his Friday speech, which will come after Comgress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s address to the delegates, Rahul may reveal the party’s new ticket distribution policy and internal reforms.

The session will also formally approve the Gandhi scion as the leader of the Congress campaign for 2014 Lok Sabha election. The session is also expected to see more young leaders coming to the dais to air their views.

The Congress will highlight UPA’s achievements and provide legal backing to entitlements as the key plank. The party will also pick stability while running a coalition government as another key issue in its campaign.

On the financial front, the party may claim that the economy is on its path of recovery. The PM too is expected to speak at length on the economic achievements.

After the drubbing of the Congress in assembly polls, Rahul had promised to aggressively push a new kind of politics within the Congress to find a better connect with the voters. For his Friday speech, Gandhi is believed to be taking inputs from different close aides including non-politicians.
