Congress to set up IT cell to counter BJP

With the social media adding a new dimension to the election campaigning - Rajiv Bhawan - headquarters of Himachal Pradesh Congress will soon have a special information technology cell.

The proposed cell will focus on the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and cross network mobile application Whatsapp.

The decision to set up the IT cell was taken up on Sunday at a meeting on Sunday. The meeting was attended by state Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, HPCC general secretary Sunil Sharma, spokespersons Naresh Chauhan, Deepak Sharma and Sanjay Singh Chauhan, executive member Mahendra Chauhan, treasurer Surender Chauhan and Rajendra Sharma, Amit Nanda and Rajendra Verma.

The workshop was held as per the directions of AICC to spread awareness among party workers on the use and importance of social media platforms for the party in modern times. The cells will also be setup at district and block levels to woo the first time voters and youths.

“The social media volunteers of the party should spread awareness about the ideology and policies of the Congress party and the government through various social media platforms,” Sukhu said, adding that party workers should have a positive approach while working on these social media platforms.

Sukhu directed all the five spokesperson to work carefully on Facebook and Twitter and party workers should not use abusive language towards anyone while spreading the message of Congress party in society.

“Technology is advancing rapidly and social media has become a major tool to reach out to masses. The future is now of social networking sites and like western countries, the future elections will be fought largely on the virtual world,” said Congress spokesperson Naresh Chauhan.

During the workshop, AICC representatives Gaurav Pandi, Zuber Patel, Hitendra Pitharia, gave lessons to Congress volunteers on use of social media to strethen party's campaign in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party had already set up IT cells and had been training its activists on how to make full use of the social media. A training camp was Recently held in Mandi.
