While discarding Bharatiya Janata Party's claim that it will win the Mandi seat in the by-election, health minister Kaul Singh Thakur said Congress party will win the seat with a handsome margin.
He said that BJP was yet to recover from the shock it got in the assembly polls and its leaders were making baseless statements to divert public attention.
Thakur was addressing at the district level party executive meeting at Mandi on Monday. District Congress Committee (DCC) president Puran Chand Thakur presided over the meeting.
Sources said Mandi by-election was the core agenda of the special meeting in which a number of Congress party leaders, including panchayati raj minister Anil Sharma and newly-appointed chief parliamentary secretary Sohan Lal Thakur, were present.
However, most of the supporters of chief minister Virbhadra Singh, including excise minister Prakash Chaudhary, former minister Rangila Ram Rao and former MLA Tek Chand, were conspicuous by their absence.
The absence of party leaders from the district was noticed by one and all as it was the first ever meeting after Mandi by-election was announced.
