india Updated: Oct 11, 2006 18:51 IST

THE CONGRESS candidate for Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency for the October 30 by-election could not be decided till late Tuesday evening as the State Congress chief Subhash Yadav, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamuna Devi and All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of party affairs for the State V Narayansami have not been able to meet Party president Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, film actress Nagma formally joined the bandwagon of contenders of Congress ticket from Vidisha, as she flew down to Delhi on Tuesday and met Yadav, who is pushing her candidature from the seat and Jamuna Devi.

Earlier, AICC observer for Vidisha J P Agrawal and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh had dismissed the possibility of Nagma’s candidature. But, Jamuna Devi had told Hindustan Times from Delhi on Tuesday that Nagma’s name was also under consideration for the constituency.

Other contenders for ticket, including two-time MP from Vidisha Pratap Bhanu Sharma, Narayan Prasad Sharma, Rajshree Singh, Jaswant Singh and Dr J P Paliwal are understood to be in Delhi for lobbying in their favour.
