A local court on Tuesday sent alleged conman Ashok Jadeja and his wife Neeta to 10-day police remand till July 26, in connection with another case registered against them in which people were duped of crores of rupees in the name of god.
Jadeja and his wife were produced in the court of Judge R M Parikh, where police sought 14-day remand of the duo in a case registered against them at the Sarkhej police station.
Public prosecutor Harivadan Chauhan submitted that police custody of the duo was required to investigate some new findings in the case after the interrogation of one of Jadeja’s aides.
Also, a gold crown weighing 10 tolas, which Jadeja used to wear is yet to be found and custody was necessary for that, he stated.
Chauhan also said that Jadeja had set up a trust and posed as a farmer to purchase agriculture land from people.
Investigation revealed that Jadeja has purchased land worth Rs 11 crore, he said.
The defence lawyer opposed the demand for custody saying that police already had all the information they required and there was no need for further remand.
He also submitted that there was no need for custody of Neeta in the investigation as she did not have much of a role in the entire matter.
