A police constable and a vegetable wholesaler were shot at in two separate incidents reported from the Capital on Saturday. Both the victims escaped with only minor injuries.
The first incident was reported from south Delhi’s Mehrauli vegetable market around 7am when the victim, later identified as Manohar Lal, a potato wholesaler, was setting up shop. “Four assailants on motorcycles approached him and a scuffle ensued during which Manohar was shot in the neck by one of them,” said an officer. “Fortunately, he was able to catch hold of one of them named Chandan, who was assaulted by the public before being handed over to us.
”The police attributed the matter to personal enmity. The victim was rushed to the Trauma Centre at AIIMS, where he is currently recuperating. In the second incident, constable Sandeep suffered a gun wound to his left hand while attempting to nab two bike-borne snatchers at east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar around 1pm.
Police said the constable was trying to stop two bike-borne snatchers. “The constable jumped on the bike and grabbed the pillion rider from behind even as the driver shot at him,” said an officer.“He managed to unbalance the bikers enough for them to drop the gold chain,” the officer said.
