Consul generals celebrate Diwali in Mumbai

Consuls general of almost all the countries based in Mumbai, diplomats and leading industrialists came together to celebrate the festival of Diwali and also the first anniversary of the Mumbai office of the Honorary Consul of Republic of Armenia on Wednesday evening at the Hotel President in Cuffe Parade.
Lighting the phuljaris, the consul generals thoroughly enjoyed the event hosted by Harshad Mahta, Honorary Consul of Republic of Armenia in Mumbai. Armen Baibourtian, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia and Ashot Kocharian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to India especially came down to Mumbai to participate in the event.
“Its has been a wonderful experience to club the Diwali festival celebrations along with the anniversary of the Mumbai office of the Honorary Consul of Republic of Armenia. Armenia’s relations with India have always been excellent. They are based on the traditional and historical ties of friendship between the peoples of two ancient civilizations”, Kocharian told Hindustan Times during the event.
According to Mehta, much more can be done between India and Armenia to get more results. “The Mumbai office of the Honorary Consul of Republic of Armenia will act as a catalysts and will make way for closer and systematic dialogue in creating trade opportunities and developing cultural links”, added Mehta.
A photo exhibition of rare pictures of Indira Gandhi on her visit to Armenia in June 1976 along with Sanjay and wife Meneka, Rajeev Gandhi and wife Sonia was also held to highlight the cultural and political events dedicated to India -Armenia friendship.
