The Kerala government on Wednesday suspended controversial IPS officer Tomin J Thachankery for taking an unauthorised trip to Qatar in 2010 and thus violating service rules.

The union home ministry had written to the state government last week recommending action against the police officer in connection with his trip.

In 2010, India’s ambassador to Qatar Deepa Wadhwa had alleged that Thachankery had interacted with several persons with dubious background when he was there.

He had earlier been suspended from service in 2010 by the then LDF government, but was reinstated later.
