In the first phase of the Bihar elections, starting October 21, the wives of convicted politicians Pappu Yadav and Anand Mohan are contesting on Congress tickets.

Ranjeet Ranjan, wife of Yadav, and Agriculture Minister Renu Kumari are taking on each other in Bihariganj. Yadav has been convicted in the murder case of CPI(M) MLA Ajit Sarkar.

In Alamnagar, Land Reforms Minister Narendra Narayan Yadav, seeking re-election on a JD(U) ticket, will be challenged by Lovely Anand, wife of Anand Mohan, convicted in the murder of an IAS officer.

In Jhanjharpur, the home turf of former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, the battle is between clan members. If Jagannath Mishra’s son Nitish Mishra is seeking re-election on a JD(U) ticket, his rival and Congress candidate Harkhu Jha’s father Radhanandan Jha was the Speaker.
