If you thought there’s no one who could spice up the kitchen more than Brit TV host Nigella Lawson, here’s your chance to change your mind. The Indian television is all set for its own desi Lawson with model Joey Matthews gearing up to don the chef’s hat for her cookery show, Love Bites With Joey. Matthews, who started cooking when she moved to Delhi from Kerala, says, “It started when some friends came over for dinner and were so impressed by my culinary skills that they offered to turn it into a show.

And considering my love for food, I thought, ‘Why not?’” And what made her take up the challenge to host the show that will soon be aired on NDTV GoodTimes. “Food is my first love. And, all these years whatever knowledge I had gained about food, I thought why not share it will everyone,” she says. Prod her on the name of the show, and she says, “Food needs to be served and prepared with love. So, love is an important part of cooking and that’s where the name comes from.”

And, is it flattering that she is being termed the desi Lawson? “Of course,” replies Matthews, who however finds it a bit unfair too. “She is the British Goddess of cooking. I am just a learner. I will take time to get to that level,” she says. And what’s with all this love for cooking? “Cooking is a challenge every day. It makes me a friendly person and that’s what I love about it,” says Matthews, who is fan of international hosts chef Jamie Oliver and chef Anthony Bourdain.
