Stung by six successive Stung by six successive defeats, Delhi urgently need a stroke of luck, and moment of inspiration, to extract themselves from the hole they presently occupy in the league table.

The current season has been a nightmare till now, and Delhi's position is no different from a tennis player who is two sets down and has had his service broken in the third.

Now on, for the Daredevils, each game is a final and there is no margin for error anymore.

The question is what can they do to turn things around, and build some kind of momentum?

Some, believers of the law of averages, feel things will sort out on their own, cricket is utterly uncertain and fortunes are known to change dramatically without reason. More so, this season with unfancied teams acting the favourites. Till now, Delhi have been a victim of this trend but the next game could be a new beginning.

Enormous talent
Coach Eric Simons is hopeful because he believes the quality of his players must come through. The team has enormous talent, both Indian and foreign, and has trained as hard as anyone else in the competition.

In situations like this, with one disaster following the next, it helps that Simons is cool and composed. More a shock absorber than a transmitter of stress, Simons is the type to push aside negativity and strive ceaselessly to create an environment that allows players to express themselves freely. As part of this empowering process, Simons gives players space and encourages them to trust their skills instead of overloading them with strategy or theory.
Captain Mahela Jayawardane shares this vision and is a staunch ally of Simons. A veteran who has experienced the rough and smooth in his cricket journey, Mahela’s calm presence is a valuable asset in times like this.
